The aim of the project is to increase the productivity and competitiveness of beef husbandry farms by using an innovative technology for the integration of physiological parameter sensors in the bolus for determining the reproductive status of cows and estrus detection, and the stage of pregnancy. This will improve the care and health of breeding and fattening cattle, especially where beef cattle are kept loose in both breeding and fattening beef herds. The reproductive performance of beef cattle kept on farms will be assessed in terms of overall health and reproductive performance. Early detection of animal health disorders could lead to move effective and faster ways of treatment or prophylaxis. The introduction of new, innovative digital algorithms and telemetry tools on Lithuanian beef cattle farms will improve animal welfare, health, safety and culture at work. Wide-ranging artificial insemination will be applied due to more accurate cow estrus detection and selection of the optimum insemination time, and on the whole these measures improve the genetic progress on beef cattle farms. The project will work with manufacturers/suppliers to adopt and optimise methods for the introduction of boluses with integrated sensors to the animal, the installation, alignment and operation of the telemetry equipment. Development of data collection and analysis systems for reproductive performance of beef cattle on the applicant's and partner farms. Telemetric data on the reproductive status of individual animals and of the herd as a whole, processed by zootechnical and digital algorithms, are collected, analysed and, based on the results of the analysis, the reproductive management of animals is optimised. The reproductive efficiency of beef cows and heifers is evaluated and compared under production conditions, where estrus, pregnancy stage and optimal insemination timing are determined using new and traditional methods. A comparative evaluation of the methods used to determine the reproductive performance of the animals shall be carried out in terms of animal welfare, worker productivity, safety and culture at work.
